Rock City atop Lookout Mtn., TN
Just ten minutes outside Chattanooga, TN is a “not to be missed” attraction. The billboards everywhere exclaim “See Rock City”, so we surrendered to the calling to find out for ourselves what the big deal was. Upon arrival, it appears like any other tourist stop, a pay booth, shops, fast food, etc., but the Big Red Doors at the entrance hid the truth behind the myth.
Once inside you immediately realize what this magical place is all about. Rocks deposited centuries ago formed this unique array of pathways through beautiful rock formations. The owners, Garnet and Frieda Carter opened their backyard to the public in 1932 and since that time, millions have enjoyed to beauty of this place. And its dog friendly, so Calli enjoyed the journey as well.
The panoramic view of seven states from “Lover’s Leap” is magnificent. The display of local artists throughout keeps you entertained and the multiple species of plant life on the trail and passageways is a feast for the senses. The 100 foot waterfall, caverns, gardens, swing bridge and a tight squeeze highlight your self guided tour.
In all, we highly recommend visiting this attraction.
