One of our favorite things to do when we arrive in a new town is park the car and walk to take in the vibe of these unique towns. Seek out their history and what they have to offer.  We check out the store fronts, menus posted outside restaurants and bars and observe which is the busiest (means it may be a good choice).  Red Lodge had quite a few great options for food and entertainment. The hard part for us is dog friendly options, but there we had lots of choices. several.

On our walk, we stumbled upon the historic Whitcomb Garage and gas station that had been restored with the original gas pumps of an era gone by.  Today, this garage houses some of the Buses of Yellowstone. What a find. These yellow “buses” took travelers up Beartooth Hwy into Yellowstone Park prior to World War II.  This building showcased the buses and vehicles, historic photos and tools commonly used to service these buses.  We tried to imagine people coming to town and riding in these especially in the winter.

All the buses and vehicles are currently operational and can be reserved for a ride during summer season travel. We really enjoyed our stop here and the guided tour by a wonderful gentleman that knew his history!
