A beautiful 70-degree, sunny day was perfect for visiting this state park right on Seneca Lake. We brought Calli along to stroll the shoreline around a portion of this beautiful, massive body of water.  The views of the homes and vineyards across the lake were stunning.  Along the path are these incredible Willow trees, some towering 70-75 feet tall (guestimate). History is not sure who actually planted these trees, but it’s believed that Geneva locals did it to honor fallen soldiers dating back to mid to late 1890.  Some say it was to help protect the shoreline as the original roadway ran close to the lake. The highway has since been relocated away from the lake. We enjoyed the wonderful shade provided by these historic trees and Calli inspected each one!

Fun fact too. Did you know that you can get anywhere in the world from Seneca Lake by water. It’s true. The park plaque stated that the Seneca-Cayuga Canal connects to the Erie canal system which goes east to the Hudson River and Atlantic Ocean. To the west, the Erie Canal connects to the Great Lakes.  Such an amazing piece of information and indication on how these waters connected so many people back in the day.
