Some dogs are obvious chewers, but some have a strategic mission. Gradual dismantling. Calli loves her stuffed toys and a few she has had for some time. She likes to have them by her when she sleeps. However, this is not without changing their appearance to her liking first. Any loose items must be taken off.  A hat, a ribbon, a tail or maybe even ears that aren’t just right.  Even eyes are apparently a target if they are something protruding and  accessible. She will patiently suck and chew away on each piece until successfully altered or ridden of it. Occasionally, this also leads to a spew of white fiber stuffing begin let loose and spread all over the place. We say this is when it “snows”. The carnage!  And then….there are her sweet brown eyes that make your heart melt when she brings it to me saying ” fix it mommy”.  And with the artful sewing of a great surgeon, or Dr. Frank-n-Steen, they are rebuilt.  Never quiet looking the same, but in her puppy eyes they are magnificent and good to go until time to again do some changes.  And off to snuggle with them once again she will trot.  We certainly have bought her many a toys and some are long gone. And many would just toss them once taken apart.  But Calli is just putting her special mark on them to make them truly hers.  So we will continue to come to her aide again and again until those precious toys just cannot be mended.
