There is always something! In this case, it was all my fault and I admit to being in a hurry and not paying attention. The towing hook up between the motorhome and the Jeep is straightforward and relatively easy IF you follow the same procedure every time. There is even a checklist Lin put together to ensure things go according to plan.

Well, I thought I could skip one simple thing and it turned out to be a big mistake. The connection between the motorhome and the Jeep is what we call the “umbilical” cord providing power for the turn signals and brake lights. Theres a socket on both vehicles that this cord plugs into and held in place by its spring-loaded cover. I was in a hurry to disconnect and pulled the cord from the motorhome and left the cord attached to the Jeep. I just coiled it up and set it across the top of the front bumper. Apparently when we moved the Jeep the cord fell and got caught up under the front tire which in turn violently cracked the socket plate. CRAP! Good news was the cord was in good shape but the socket bracket didn’t fare well. The “ears” which incorporated the mounting holes that allow it to be attached to the Jeep were gone. The problem is that it must be attached to a solid base otherwise the cord would hit the ground creating huge problems. After studying the situation for a few minutes, I had to figure a way to reattach the socket. I dragged out my trusty parts bin and decided to use two curtain rod hangers bent just right. The socket gods were keeping an eye on me or maybe pure luck, we are back in business. Moral of the story, pay attention and don’t skip the detailed steps!
