Visiting Horse Country
After a wild winter stay in DeFuniak Springs, FL we decided to move a little further south to Ocala seeking the suns’ warmth. We experienced snow and freezing temps that weren’t normal for the area, we exceeded our fill of northeast environments. Lin found a spot at North Ocala RV Resort, just north of Ocala in the heart of horse country. In fact, there are some of the largest horse farms in the world. More on that later. Ocala RV Resort is conveniently located just off I75 and far enough away that road noise really wasn’t an issue. Their amenities included two large dog parks, pool, shuffleboard, bocce, pickleball, tennis and exercise room/equipment. The sites are
nicely spaced and landscaped, in all, very well-maintained property. Every day the management brings in different food trucks so you can rely on coffee in the morning and a decent selection of evening meals as well as a hair stylist in a pull behind trailer. A majority of the inhabitants of this camp were snowbirds escaping winter up north. Most were settled in for three months or more, while it appears that some are anchored here full time. We chose a month’s stay with a great rate and an excellent level camp space. Calli enjoyed her walks throughout the camp and frolicked with several new friends every day. Friends, Ray and Karen from New Hampshire, were camping 15 minutes away in a Sun Outdoors property which made it real easy to catch up visiting with them and getting some golf in. Great to see them both! Next, my sister Terry and BIL Jim were passing through on their way to meet their cruise ship and they met us for brunch in Ocala.  Linda’s birthday fell on the 26th and a fantastic night out it was at a steak house, YUM!   Naples FL was also a trip we took to visit Carole and Joe Avella for a few days. Their hospitality was wonderful and we enjoyed our stay.  Our last side trip excursion was to Venice FL to meet up with Carole and Joe at the Community Center in town to see Tyrus from the Gutfeld show on Fox. He delivered a great show to a very enthusiastic crowd. We stayed overnight in Venice, had a great breakfast and said goodbye to our friends and headed back to pick up Calli. She had an overnight at Red Fern Animal Boarding in Ocala which she thoroughly enjoyed hanging with her kind. About these horse farms…absolutely beautiful pieces of landscape with majestic creatures living their best life. If you are ever in this area, I suggest taking time to drive though Ocala and enjoy the beauty of this area.
